Ingredients:
8 oz seltzer
1 heaping scoop vanilla ice cream
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup*
Directions:
Scoop the ice cream into the bottom of a tall glass. Top with syrup and seltzer. Stir lightly with a long spoon. Serve with a straw and drink immediately.
Serves one.
*I used the best chocolate sauce/syrup I've had the pleasure of eating: the bittersweet chocolate sauce from Sassy Sauces. It is rather thick so I heated it slightly before use.

How do you like it? I have been toying with the idea of that purchase for about a year now. I don't want to make soda - i just want to reduce the amount of perrier bottles my boyfriend ppurchases in a bid to help the environment. I am pretty sure he isn't going to approve though - since he insists perrier is the only water he really likes. Maybe if I add the bubbles then siphon it off into a perrier bottle? Do you think he owuld notice?
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot. It is really easy to use and you can control the amount of bubbles, I am sure it can mimic Perrier. I am a die hard club soda use and have totally made the switch.
ReplyDeleteok - i had no idea you could control bubbles. That is awesome. I think I know what treat to put on my list for next pay day now...
ReplyDeleteThanks!
It's like a little bit of summer to push away the chill!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a real ice cream soda before but i do love rootbeer floats! sounds yummy. as for making club soda, a friend of mine followed a hack online (i think from make magazine) and now makes his own!
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought of ice cream soda in ages. I like to add just a little bit of whipped cream to mine.
ReplyDeleteAccording to my father, who worked as a soda jerk in his youth, root beer floats were known as brown cows.
Yum! I really like to make mine with mint chocolate chip ice cream instead of vanilla. Haven't had one in a few years, but now I'm craving one. I'm enjoying you blog!
ReplyDeleteIt is NEVER too early for ice cream related goodness. Ice cream never goes out of season!
ReplyDeleteWell, if you make it with milk instead of ice cream, it makes it an egg cream, not an ice cream soda. I love them, but prefer vanilla syrup to chocolate . . . it's what cream soda SHOULD be. (What it's named for, in fact!) But, still, chocolate's good, too....
ReplyDeleteActually Deb, what I meant was that people add milk in addition to the ice cream not instead of. I posted about egg creams a while back. And again, a vanilla cream soda is something a little different than what I posted here, this is an ice cream soda, which has for decades used chocolate syrup.
ReplyDeleteYummy! Ice cream soda must have been so refreshing!
ReplyDeleteI love sodas and floats. One of my little luxuies now that I am dieting is diet chocolate cherry Dr. Pepper with a scoop of low fat vanilla ice cream. I had never heard of some of the othervariations you mentioned, and now I want to try them!
