Chocolate Cream Cheese Truffles

1 3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
4 oz cream cheese*, slightly softened
2 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted

cocoa to roll

In a large bowl, beat together cream cheese and sugar. Add chocolate. Beat until well combined. Using your fingers, roll the chocolate/cream cheese mixture to the size of a large marble or superball. Sprinkle about 1/3 cup of cocoa on a plate and gently roll the candy to coat. Place on a clean plate and serve. You can also wait a couple of hours and they will have a more solid texture.

*the kind you get in a brick, not “spreadable” or “whipped”

My thoughts:

I like to make sweet things on Tuesdays and since today is Slashfood’s candy day, I thought I’d make candy. I normally don’t make candy so it was a nice change. At first I was going to make cream cheese fudge but then had the brainstorm of rolling them in unsweetened cocoa powder and making truffles. I am glad I did, they are so dark chocolate-y and tangy from the cream cheese. Also: you can’t tell from the picture, but the bowl they are sitting in is teeny-tiny, it fits in the center of my hand, only about 2 inches across!

  1. Oh, yum! These sound delicious!

  2. Darn it, I am so not on the ball. I had no idea it was candy day and I read Slash food. Boo.
Well at least you participated and they look yummy.

  3. There is something so “rich” about truffles. They just conjure up fluffy high-heeled slippers and white robes for me! Careful with that cocoa on all the white. Too cheesy? Truffles are a fun part of being a girl. (For me, anyway. But yes, boys can share.)

  4. No better canday out there for my $$ than truffles

  5. I was having a bad night yesterday (my car was towed, completely my fault), so I needed chocolate and decided to try this super, simple recipe.

I only made half the recipe, but they are so decadent, that I brought most in to share with my coworkers. They loved them. Exact words were “perfect,” and “just the right bite of chocolate.”

I only had Neufchatel cream cheese, so I added a teeny bit of milk and a little blob of Hershey’s syrup for a bit of creaminess.

  6. This is definitely better than the marshmallows I tried to make for Slashfood’s candy day. These look amazing!

  7. Danelle: I am glad you and your coworkers liked them! They are so easy, I want to make more.

  8. What a great, simple idea! I’ll have to write this one down!

  9. omg!

    these look so amazing!
    and so easy!

i think i might trying making this and nicole’s marshmallows this weekend=P

(licking my lips already just thinking about it!)

  10. That seems pretty easy. Looks delish!

  11. Those look so good! Truffles are my favorite sweet.

  12. Perfect timing! I was looking to use up half a brick of Philly when I saw your truffles. Thanks for sharing!

  13. A truffle with cream cheese. Mmmm. They’re so easy to make and how else can you impress people in such a big way with so little effort?

  14. Oh, my! Irresistable! Looks absolutely yummy.

  15. I followed your instructions to a T, and I ended up with a bowl of thick sticky goo. Nothing was able to be rolled.

  16. Anon: Sounds like you did more than “slightly soften” your cream cheese. Next time, use it when it is more firm.

  17. Mmmm I just made these yesterday! That are AMAZINGLY good! I don’t have a mixer so I let the cream cheese soften all day for easy mixing, and then just stuck them in the fridge for a bit to harden before I rolled. Yum Yum 🙂
