Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:
1/2 lb. confectioners’ sugar
2/3 cup butter, at room temperature
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla paste
A few drops of food coloring (optional)

Directions:
In a large bowl, beat together sugar, butter, vanilla, and food coloring until smooth. If necessary, add a few drops of milk until frosting is spreading consistency.

My thoughts:

An easy buttercream that has some flecks of vanilla bean it. The yield is just enough to frost 12 cupcakes or one 8 inch round single layer cake.

  1. These sound delicious. I’m going to try them this week. Any suggestions on where should I look to find vanilla paste?

  2. I bought some at Trader Joe’s. Also: Williams Sonoma/Sur Le Table often have it.

  3. Yes, Trader Joe’s is the cheapest, if you have one near you.

  4. I ended up just using vanilla extract and a little milk. I’m was sad that none of the stores in my college town sell vanilla paste, but one works with what they have, I suppose. I’m definitely hitting up Trader Joe’s when I get back to my hometown, though, to try this.

  5. Patrick: vanilla paste really doesn’t taste much more “vanilla-y” than vanilla extract. You’re really just missing the beans.
