Ingredients:
2 cups fresh cranberries
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup lime juice
2 tablespoons dark rum
1 inch knob ginger, grated
zest of 1 lime
2 cups fresh cranberries
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup lime juice
2 tablespoons dark rum
1 inch knob ginger, grated
zest of 1 lime
Directions:
Place the cranberries, water, juice, sugar, ginger and zest in a medium saucepan and, stirring occasionally, cook for 20 minutes over medium high heat to reduce and thicken. Remove from heat and stir in the rum. Serve hot or cold.
My thoughts:
Who says cranberry sauce has to be boring? This sauce boasts zippy ginger and tangy lime, both of which add a lot of flavor without overpowering the cranberry or wandering too far afield from traditional sauces.
The cranberry sauce looks delicious! I’m definitely going to have to make this the next time I do some turkey. I’m also going to share your recipe with my family so we can have it with our Christmas turkey!
Yummmm, two of my favs lime and cranberries. I can’t wait to make thi!
This looks delicious! But can I use light rum? I already have a bottle of that…what would the difference be?
Thanks!
Bridget- You can give it a try- dark rum has more of a pronunced flavor. It actually would be fine if you left it out all together.
Love this photo! Beautiful!
I never find cranberry sauce boring (but then again, I always make my own)! This looks great. I love the addition of rum. Yum.
Ooh, that sounds good. And lime and cranberry is one of my favorite combinations! (Cranberry juice with generous fresh lime …. great drink, and festive, too, with some seltzer added!)
This is the sexiest cranberry sauce recipe I’ve seen. Seriously. The lime and the rum are brilliant!
this sounds soo delicious. my mom made a way-too-sour cranberry sauce last thanksgiving and my eyes watered when i tried it. i like the word “spiked” in the title. it sounds dangerous haha
I just made this and it is WONDERFUL – and a breeze to make!
MAN! I made a batch of this last night and it was declared good enough to put on ice cream, but still tart and lovely enough for turkey. I made a second batch today because I know I’ll want leftovers after Thanksgiving.
Sailor Jerry’s spiced rum makes the sauce sweeter, but the spices work. Meyer’s Dark Rum works better, I think.
I made this cranberry sauce and love it! It has a warm and spicy flavor that I love. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Rachel. I hope this spot lets you know when someone has posted a comment on a relatively old entry of yours. Thanks so much for making the link to Springpad. I get your entries in a reader, as I do other food blogs. I immediately downloaded your weekly planner, but couldn’t wait to start collecting recipes. This is the first that I have attached to my new springpad account. I think I will spend the rest of the afternoon building my springpad recipe collection. I hope you don’t mind that I didn’t wait for you to start adding the springpad link to start collecting your intriguing recipes. Cheers! and thanks so much for this wonderful site.

Thanks so much for the recipe! I made this for my family for Christmas Eve dinner, and it was a huge hit.
